About the NCS Reston Branch

The National Capital Section's Reston Branch hosts regular monthly technical meetings at ASCE Headquarters in Reston at lunch time. Formerly a Committee of the Section, it was, in late October 2017,  anointed a Branch in recognition of its successful track record of serving members from the Reston area with well-attended PDH and networking opportunities. Several Branch Officer positions have opened up for our member volunteers to fill. Take advantage of these emerging leadership opportunities!

2/13/2018: A Question of Ethics

Ms. Hoke will use cases drawn from past Question of Ethics columns, published in Civil Engineering Magazine, to discuss the engineer's ethical obligations and invite discussion on how to handle an ethical dilemma.As it relates to these ethical cases, she will discuss the ASCE Code of Ethics, first adopted in 1914, which all ASCE members subscribe to as part of membership in the Society.

Attendees will receive (1.0) Professional Development Hour (PDH).

About the Presenter: Tara Hoke is the General Counsel at ASCE and a member of the Virginia bar. Her responsibilities for ASCE include legal consultation in the areas of employment, tax, corporate, contract, mergers and acquisitions, antitrust, intellectual property, real estate, and construction law. Ms. Hoke oversees ASCE's professional conduct committee, and writes a monthly column A Question of Ethics, which is published in Civil Engineering Magazine. Tara serves as a Council member for the Committee on Publication Ethics, a nonprofit organization established to provide guidance to journal editors and publishers on publication ethics.

We're always on the lookout for volunteers to help in the planning of technical meetings in Reston.
