FAM Construction, a joint venture between Ferrovial Construction and Allan Myers, is building the $2.3 billion Transform 66 Outside the Beltway project in Northern Virginia. The massive design-build project requires daily coordination between many different disciplines of civil engineering including design, traffic maintenance, drainage, construction, and many more. FAM Construction’s Responsible Charge Engineer will discuss a project overview, the different engineering roles critical to the success of the project, and some of the interesting challenges and solutions he has seen so far on the project.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Richard Clifton, PE, PTOE, serves as Responsible Charge Engineer at FAM Construction, contractor for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. After receiving his degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech, Mr. Clifton pursued a master’s degree in transportation engineering from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He worked for the City of Charlotte Department of Transportation for 12 years before transitioning to the Commonwealth of Virginia. There, he served in various roles for Gannett Flemming, The Virginia Department of Transportation, and RK&K for a combined 13 years. Most recently, he worked as Deputy Design Manager at Allen Myers, the largest civil construction and materials company in the Mid-Atlantic, for 7 years before accepting the role with the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. He is an integral member of the team at FAM Construction acting not only as the Responsible Charge Engineer, but as a leading voice of expertise that all departments draw upon.
