The Montgomery County Department of Parks seeks an enthusiastic, self-starter with strong graphic and computer skills to be a full-time career ADA Design Technician in its Park Development Division.  This person will primarily support the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) program in the division but will support other programs as time permits.  The Park Development Division is responsible for the implementing the Department's $195.0 million Capital Improvements Program (CIP), a six-year plan for the acquisition, design, construction, and renovation of the more than 400 parks within Montgomery County, Maryland.

The Montgomery County Department of Parks is part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC).  M-NCPPC is a six-time award-winning, nationally recognized agency and recipient of the National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Parks and Recreation management, serving the Maryland region adjacent to Washington, D. C.  We have a career staff of nearly 800 employees, and we serve a diverse population of more than one million residents.  We have an annual operating budget of over $100 million.

The ADA Design Technician will support project managers who have developed a long-term ADA Transition Plan to upgrade the park system to comply with the Title II ADA requirements for all its programs and facilities.  This Transition Plan includes a system-wide assessment of existing park facilities, management of audit results, recommendations and prioritization of upgrades, and a short and long-term action plan for implementation and documentation of repairs.  The Design Technician will support and assist project managers in the design and drafting for ADA improvement and infrastructure rehabilitation projects, preparation of compliant graphic materials, required field work during project construction, and documentation of all completed ADA barrier removals and changes in Park assets performed as part of improvement projects.

The ADA Design Technician will also support other staff with regards to applying ADA requirements to ongoing projects. The Design Technician must be detail oriented and proactive to stay abreast and learn about new guidelines standards, and requirements, as well as new and evolving technologies while working closely with other divisions within Parks to improve accessibility and asset management.
