CYM Younger Member Awards

The Commitee on Younger Members (CYM) is actively soliciting nominations for the five Younger Member Awards listed below. The deadline for all award nominations is February 1, 2005. Nomination forms and additional information for all awards may be found at http://www.asce.org/pressroom/honors/cym_awrds.cfm. Please be sures to use the proper form for the current award year as some forms have changed from last year.

Younger Member Group Award

The Younger Member Group Award recognizes the most outstanding Large and Small Younger Member Groups in the Society. Please note that the criteria for the Large and Small Younger Member Groups have been revised to reflect the current ASCE membership.

Professional:
Officers and Committee Members: Younger Members who serve as national or local officers (other than YMG officers), or who serve on national or local professional committees (other than YMG committees).

Technical:
Technical presentation: Present technical papers or other presentation at ASCE or other technical seminar or short course.
Technical Officer/Committee Members: Younger Members serving as national or local technical committee officers/members.
Technical Awards: Younger Member winners of ASCE national or local technical awards or technical awards presented by other societies.

Publications:
Article written by Younger Member(s) published in ASCE national or local technical or professional publication e.g. CE Magazine, ASCE News, ASCE journals, or proceedings of the ASCE conferences (NOT newsletters).
Article written by Younger Member(s) published in newsletters, newspapers, or general magazines other than ASCE.

Daniel W Mead Prize

The Daniel W. Mead Prize is awarded on the basis of paper on professional ethics. The topic for this year's paper is: "Is it ethical to use an engineering software program to solve a problem if you cannot complete the calculations manually?" Authors must be members of ASCE who are 35 years of age.

Edmund Friedman Young Engineer Award

The Edmund Friedman Young Engineer Award for Professional Achievement recognizes the professional contributions of Younger Members of the Society for service, technical competence, high character, integrity, and leadership. Candidates must be members of ASCE who are 35 years of age.

Young Government Civil Engineer Award

The Young Government Civil Engineer Award recognizes distinguished civil engineers employed in public service for demonstrated leadership potential in Public Service Engineering. Candidates must be members of ASCE who are 35 years of age.

Collingwood Prize

The Collingwood Prize is awarded to the author(s) of a paper (1) describing an engineering work with which the author(s) have been directly connected, or (2) recording the investigations contributing to engineering knowledge to which the author(s) have contributed some essential part, and (3) containing a rational digest of results. Author(s) must be member(s) of ASCE who were 35 years of age or less at the time the paper was submitted in essentially its final form.
